When a week prior to it's release, a debate started raging on the release date of 'Komaram Pulli', it was becoming apparent to all that it would be going down the lane
When the producers are not sure in getting the prints to the theaters and the lead protagonist detaches himself from the mass frenzy being whipped up prior to the release, it does send negative signals not only to the fans but the audience in general
Having not seen the movie, I cannot talk about what appealed to me and what din't! If you follow Telugu movies and an aficionado of Internet, you would realise that there are countless loopholes to the movie. Not that we agree to every word that's said in the reviews but when you need to pay 50 rupees on a single screen and god knows what exorbitant price on the multiplex screens, you would want to check out the reviews before you spend that kind of money
It does not help that the movie is in making for two and a half years as there would be plethora of stories about the content in the movie and people would then need to be dragged out of their seats to come and watch the movie. With an alleged 40 crores pumped into the movie, it seems like a losing proposition. Telugu film industry has not grown to such a stage that it can incur an expenditure on more than 30 crores on a movie
In the coming weeks we will be witness to four highly hyped movies- Robo, Khaleja (Mahesh Khaleja, rather), Brindavanam and Rakhta Charitra. With Robo laying seize to the theaters, as it is releasing with 2000+ prints worldwide, we can expect the other three movies getting postponed. Here the fact that needs to be taken into consideration is that the producer has pumped in unseen amounts of money into the film and would want to fill his coffers as early as possible and releasing it with maximum prints will ensure a lot of returns
Robo may or may not realise it's investments but it will certainly set a business model for high budget movies which Hindi film industry is already following
For low and medium budget movies, it will be good to get back to the old model, where without bothering about the records, it has to be given a controlled release. If the movie is a hit and is bringing in the moolah for the single screens, high budget movies would then have to schedule the release according to the run of these movies in the theaters
For this to happen the actors need to understand and side with the producers and need to take the remuneration or rather their share after the movie breaks even. For their sake let a token/signing amount be paid
