Dum Maro Dum - You do need some Dum

In 2005 released a movie that had based its promotions on the lead actor singing rap. What added to the movie were the superb performances by the ensemble cast. The biggest advantage to the movie was the fact that the twists were not forced upon the viewer but was a part of the movie. The movie went by the name ‘Bluffmaster’ Now in 2011, the director and actor collaborated to make another thriller that was shouting from the roof tops that it was a thriller. The promotions were based on a song performed by Deepika Padukone which consisted of filthy lyrics. How you wish they had based it on the rap song by Abhishek Bachchan While Bluffmaster had Nana Patekar and Riteish Deshmukh delivering superlative performances, Dum Maaro Dum has to entirely rely on the script considering none of the actors have a meaty part Its the script that lets the actors down rather than the actors letting the movie down. When the character of Michael Barbosa is so built up, the unravelling of who it is do

Steve Waugh: Out of my comfort zone

The basic difference between biography and autobiography is clear to many. The writing styles in the respective kinds will become more apparent when you read Mark Waugh’s biography and Steve Waugh’s autobiography The book begins as a chronological narration of events and ends with his retirement in the Sydney Test against India in 2004. Since the book is voluminous, Steve Waugh has taken care to intersperse it with some anecdotes, which ofcourse add to the book. A sampler of them would be Shane Warne sledging Robert Croft. When Croft hits Warne for a six and stands looking at the replay appreciating his own efforts, Warne is quick to take a jibe at him saying “ Hey Croftie! You can have a look at the replays again in a couple of minutes” and he bowls him The Childhood chapters aren’t given much pages except for talking about the ‘fibro’ background and talking about the competitive edge with Mark Waugh What takes a chunk of the book though is his Test debut, 1987 World Cup win, Strugg

Apogee of Sachin Tendulkar

51-48: These are not the numbers that Sidhu utters when two equal teams go head to head. These are the numbers that every Indian cricket fan knows by heart and would have wanted it to change to 51-49 99 is the number that has been forever associated with Don Bradman. Yes the digits after the decimal place make it even more heartbreaking. 99.94. Before the final started Sachin was on 99 hundreds and it was widely expected that he would reach his hundredth hundred on the grandest stage of them all When he was dismissed for 18, the nation took a collective breath of despair. Gambhir, Kohli, and Dhoni set about repairing the damage. There in lay the biggest influence that Tendulkar has exerted over a generation. As the new generation chipped away at the target the great man must have been beaming with pride It must be to his eternal regret (or rather mine) that the country remembers only his century knocks, which means that they have a bank of 99 knocks to depend upon. My favourite i

Final : India V Sri Lanka

Tendulkar has finally become the most decorated player in World Cricket. After having the hefty tag of ‘God’ attached to him for close to a decade now, World Cup was the only thing that was missing from him. If it was him who carried the hopes of the cricket fans in India, then today it was payback time for him. The generation of players that were inspired by him bought home the cup. Nothing encapsulated this better than what Kohli said. He said “ He carried the burden for 21 years, now is our time to carry him” The match itself started off in a misleading manner as the captains were not sure of what the other meant to do and were steadfast in the belief that they won the toss. In the end, the referee wanted the toss to be conducted. In what has been a superb turnaround from 2003 final, Zaheer started this final in a superb manner- he bowled three maidens on the trot. On the other hand, the surprise selection for final, Sreesanth endured a tough time- exactly the way he started off t
