India V Australia 2nd ODI

Finally the teams have played an ODI! What was a 7-ODI series was later changed to 2-Tests and 3-ODI series. The crowd have been richer by the change in the schedule as we got to see a classic in Mohali and the batting guns booming in Bengaluru

The focus then shifted to the ODI's and after the first match at Kochi was abandoned without a ball being bowled, it was felt that the same would happen to the One-dayer at Visakhapatnam. In the event, with the seniors being rested it was felt that India kickstarted the preparations for World Cup as they gave chances to a few players on the fringes. What was refreshing to watch was that it was new players who got the chance rather than the Sharma's and the Pathan's of the Indian cricketing scene

After India won the toss and chose to field, it was apparent that there was a lot more trust on the batting prowess than the bowling abilities

Australia got off to a slow start owing to the slowness of the pitch and with Clarke too not getting off to the best of the starts, it was felt that Australian top order was lacking in firepower with Marsh, Paine, and Clarke occupying the top three slots in the order

Clarke was good down the ground and the punches he played in the early part of his innings were very good. With Hussey coming to the middle, the proceedings fastened up as he lit up the ground with his cover drives and flicks. With the conditions being pretty humid, Hussey, was getting tired pretty quickly and it showed as there was a lapse of concentration which finally led to his dismissal. He misjudged a length delivery and was struck plumb in front

Out came White after the dismissal and the way he started was not in any way indicative of the violence he was about to unleash. He warmed up to the task by clobbering Vinay Kumar first and then Praveen Kumar. Even Nehra was not spared. Inspired by the big hitting at the other end, Clarke breezed through his nineties and also slogged a slower ball over midwicket for a six. Considering that they scored 84 runs in the last five overs, Australia had the momentum at the half way stage

The bowling stock of Australia too was no good as they handed debuts to two players and their best bowler was Hopes with 67 wickets. India on the other hand handed out the caps to Shikar Dhawan and Sourav Tiwary

Dhawan could not make the best of the first opportunity given as he was bowled by a ball coming into him. Vijay looked good at the other end as he played three scorchers of drives through extra cover. With his dismissal, strode in Yuvraj. His partnership with Kohli was so similar to that of Clarke-Hussey, with Yuvraj playing the Hussey role. He was dismissed because of a break in concentration- cramps to Kohli and a misunderstanding with Dhawan- and Raina played an innings that was eerily similar to that of White. What tilted the match in India's favour was Kohli's acceleration in the middle part of the innings

There was a time , when I was a Chiranjeevi fan, to an extent that I even defended his flop movies such as Rickshavodu, Big Boss and others of the same ilk. For me he was was the ultimate star- the superstar. And hearing tales of Amitabh Bachchan from my father did nothing to alter my views on Chiranjeevi's superstardom Towards the end of my graduation, that is circa 2005 in April, two movies released- Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi. I went to Mumbai Express for the first day first show and was not impressed. Rajnikanth, coming off a colossal flop called  Baba  and Chandramukhi was touted to be his comeback vehicle. Since we had nothing to do, we dragged ourselves to Chandramukhi and I was impressed with the fact that as a superstar, he allowed the female protagonist to run away with the credit Well when Sivaji released, I got to see Rajni mania first hand and what a sight it was! I was in Bangalore and there was a serpentine queue to procure the tickets. The sheer magnitude

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa

Jab Harry met Sejal

I am writing this after Shahrukh Khan came out of the box-office rut with a movie called “Pathaan”. I am writing this about a movie that contributed to the box-office rut; Jab Harry met Sejal.   What can you say about the movie that’s unsaid? It’s an Imtiaz Ali movie. It will showcase travel. It will have the protagonists mouthing philosophical dialogues about love, life and relationships. It will have the protagonists “finding themselves” during the journey.   Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma put in earnest efforts in the movie, but the movie lets them down. While I was watching the movie, the person next to me (who wasn’t even watching) asked if Anushka Sharma was playing a Gujarati in the movie. That in my eyes is Anushka Sharma nailing her bit.   The problem with the movie isn’t the premise but how the director deviates from the premise often. While it may be deliberate, it does seem that the director wants to leave his “signature”. At times, the movie does seem like
