Why I started loving the Australian cricket team

Well there are many reasons that can be attributed to why I love the Australian cricket team. I guess my love for them started off somewhere during 1990, because my uncle gifted me a book on their 1987 World Cup win. The book in vivid detail explained why the Australian team won and how they won. The thing that stands out in my memory is the photo of Simon O'Donnell celebrating the fall of Graham Gooch's wicket. It was specifically mentioned in the book that they were not even the favorites to qualify from the group, given the struggles they had from the time G.Chappell, D.Lillee, R.Marsh retired

There are so many reasons that I can attribute to me loving them. What stands out as a fan for me is the way they fought on the cricket field. I remember reading a piece on them in Sportstar where it was mentioned that on a football field it was Germany and on a cricket pitch it was Australia. These matches, arranged chronologically have helped a lot in increasing my love for them. Please note that the list is not exhaustive and I will keep adding matches as and when I think of them

1) India v Australia at Chennai, 9th October 1987

Australia cam into the World Cup, placed in the easier of the two groups. In their first match they had to meet the hosts and the overwhelming favourites, India. After losing the toss and being sent into bat, Australia, with the aid of a Geoff Marsh century posted a total of 270. In response India got off to a flyer as Sunil Gavaskar spread the field with a 32-ball 37. Thereafter, Srikkanth and Siddhu took charge as India raced to 207-2. It was Mcdermott then who broke the back of Indian middle order with the wickets of Siddhu, Vengsarkar, Azharuddin and Shastri. This match brought back the memories of the
tied match between the same teams at the same venue

2) Ashes 1989

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa

Enthiran

There was a time , when I was a Chiranjeevi fan, to an extent that I even defended his flop movies such as Rickshavodu, Big Boss and others of the same ilk. For me he was was the ultimate star- the superstar. And hearing tales of Amitabh Bachchan from my father did nothing to alter my views on Chiranjeevi's superstardom Towards the end of my graduation, that is circa 2005 in April, two movies released- Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi. I went to Mumbai Express for the first day first show and was not impressed. Rajnikanth, coming off a colossal flop called  Baba  and Chandramukhi was touted to be his comeback vehicle. Since we had nothing to do, we dragged ourselves to Chandramukhi and I was impressed with the fact that as a superstar, he allowed the female protagonist to run away with the credit Well when Sivaji released, I got to see Rajni mania first hand and what a sight it was! I was in Bangalore and there was a serpentine queue to procure the tickets. The sheer magnitude

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Ten years ago a young man gave the Hindi film industry a breath of fresh air with his ‘cult’ film Dil Chahta Hai . It was, in all senses a coming of the age movie. That young man now acts in a movie directed by his sister. The movie bears uncanny resemblance to the movie made by the man himself Starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar (in the same order as they appear in screen credits), the movie has a lot going for it. The star cast is a major plus and the biggest positive for the movie is the location that it has been shot in- Spain What starts off as a fun trip changes into one where the protagonists confront their fears and in the process we peel the layers of their personalities. Though at some places the movie seems dragged, it does the job of taking you along with the proceedings. The only complaint, if there has to be one, is the fact that the comic track that involves the boys scaring others seems a little forced. All the three actors appear in most of the scen
