Orange- (N)O range

In the movie Ram Charan Tej draws an analogy between cricket and golf. After watching the movie, one thing that ran on my mind was the fact that Bhaskar's career as a director could be analogised with that of a cricketer. Without generalising, it would be easy to suggest that Bhaskar's life has oriented around Bommarillu and his every movie will be compared to it. There is no escaping the fact. The cricket comparisons come in here

Like a talented cricketer who has waited for a chance in Test cricket and has played out the scene in his mind for every living day of a superb domestic career, it won't be surprising if he actually scores a century on debut. The problem starts from there on, he would not have in all probability dreamt of the second and third tests

Bhaskar too faces the same predicament. He had a superb script in Bommarillu and he must have played out every scene of that movie tonnes of times in his mind. Am not very sure about the same things happening for Parugu and Orange

In fact the biggest strength of Bommarillu becomes the biggest force that almost coerces you in leaving the theatre in the first half of the movie- Genelia. It would not be an abberation to say that Genelia acted like a wanna-be Genelia in the movie's first half

With the audio being a super hit, the visuals of the songs, except for Rooba Rooba fail to satisfy. It is in the second half that the movie actually picks up and gets us engrossed. Ram Charan does his bit well and if it's not a conscious effort from him to not look/behave like Chiranjeevi, it's commendable. On the same note, you would not be mistaken if you take him to be a young Pawan Kalyan, especially the body language. There is one moment of Vintage Chiranjeevi in the movie though which his fans would easily fall for
(Hint: Hello Ramante song)

Genelia is one of the strengths and the biggest weakness of the movie. Her performance in first half is akin to watching a struggler trying to be Genelia. Towards the end of the movie , Ram Charan talks about the changes in Genelia and that seem to hold true for her acting performance in first half. In the second half, she comes roaring back to form as she performs with panache that we have come to associate her with

Shahzan Padamsee stands out for her naturality and her face talks a thousand words. Guess Ram Charan's episode with her strikes the right chords because she was able to emote well with her eyes. The possessiveness that she shows in a few scenes stands out and marks her as a performer in the days to come

One thing that I liked in the movie was the stubborness of Ram Charan, not quite to Roarkian proportions but the shades are very much present. His character is the one that is strongly etched in the movie. He exploits that and a delivers a good performance

Scenes I liked

'Light' Philosophy by Ram Charan
Ram Charan and Naga babu's scene
Ram Charan- Shahzan Padamsee thread
Comparison between cricket and golf
4 words, 3 SMS's , 2 lies and a flower philosophy of Charan's friend (This might not be so accurate from me, please watch the movie)
Graffiti coffee-tea ki kooda paniki radhu

Final word: For me, it's like a batting team collapsing in the first innings for 100 chasing 600 in the fist innings and then with a target of 600+, a few batsmen score centuries. You can only take back the centuries but are left wondering why they did not do it in the first innings itself( cricketing analogy intended)

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa...

Enthiran

There was a time , when I was a Chiranjeevi fan, to an extent that I even defended his flop movies such as Rickshavodu, Big Boss and others of the same ilk. For me he was was the ultimate star- the superstar. And hearing tales of Amitabh Bachchan from my father did nothing to alter my views on Chiranjeevi's superstardom Towards the end of my graduation, that is circa 2005 in April, two movies released- Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi. I went to Mumbai Express for the first day first show and was not impressed. Rajnikanth, coming off a colossal flop called  Baba  and Chandramukhi was touted to be his comeback vehicle. Since we had nothing to do, we dragged ourselves to Chandramukhi and I was impressed with the fact that as a superstar, he allowed the female protagonist to run away with the credit Well when Sivaji released, I got to see Rajni mania first hand and what a sight it was! I was in Bangalore and there was a serpentine queue to procure the tickets. The sheer ...

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Ten years ago a young man gave the Hindi film industry a breath of fresh air with his ‘cult’ film Dil Chahta Hai . It was, in all senses a coming of the age movie. That young man now acts in a movie directed by his sister. The movie bears uncanny resemblance to the movie made by the man himself Starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar (in the same order as they appear in screen credits), the movie has a lot going for it. The star cast is a major plus and the biggest positive for the movie is the location that it has been shot in- Spain What starts off as a fun trip changes into one where the protagonists confront their fears and in the process we peel the layers of their personalities. Though at some places the movie seems dragged, it does the job of taking you along with the proceedings. The only complaint, if there has to be one, is the fact that the comic track that involves the boys scaring others seems a little forced. All the three actors appear in most of the scen...
