India V New Zealand - 2nd Test, Day 1

Matthew Hayden, talking about playing in India said  "There are periods of time when nothing happens and then suddenly a wicket falls, the crowd gets behind the players and then another wicket falls. Before you know it's all happening in front of your eyes"

This seems to be even more true with India being the numero uno in Test cricket now. When the focus shifted to Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, the 101st stadium to host Test cricket, all the concerns were centred on the pitch. There was heavy rain in the southern parts of the country and as the pitch was covered for most of the time, it was expected that there would be some help for the pace bowlers

Zaheer Khan these days does the job of taunting, terrifying and ultimately snaring the batsmen pretty well. He seemed to be on course to do the same to McIntosh all over again as he bowled immaculate line and length to him. McIntosh bagged a pair in the last game at Ahmedabad and looked vulnerable against Zaheer who got him out in both the innings in the previous game

McCullum had no such problems as he began by smashing Sreesanth who erred in line and length to cover boundary. That was the only entertainment that he would provide for the day as he was caught behind off a beauty pitching in line and moving away just a little bit, enough to kiss the outside edge. It seemed to hark back to the days when New Zealand collapsed after McCullum's wicket

Then began the combine of Guptill and McIntosh which was slow to begin with and Guptill, in particular was destiny's favorite child as he was called back after it was found that Sreesanth had overstepped on the ball that got his outside edge. Guptill would get a reprieve as Dhoni dropped a straight-forward chance of Harbhajan

Guptill made these count as he went on the attack against the spinners by using his feet well against them. The lofted chip over long-on off Harbhajan was the stand out

With Guptill looking dangerous and in the mood to attack, Hayden's words started ringing true as he fell to Ojha. He failed to read the delivery that went with the arm and was in line with the stumps

Taylor came and put in the effort to stay put at the crease and played against the flow of his natural game. He would be upset at the loose shot he played because he hung his bat out and also he was basically set up for it. Till that point India had a wicket each in the three sessions

Zaheer Khan got McIntosh with the new ball as he found the inside edge and it pegged back the middle stump. Hopkins ensured that there would be no more alarms as he stayed put with Ryder to continue into the second day

Although it seems that honours are even, they lie with New Zealand as they have a couple more batsmen to come in addition to the pair at the crease

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa...

Final : India V Sri Lanka

Tendulkar has finally become the most decorated player in World Cricket. After having the hefty tag of ‘God’ attached to him for close to a decade now, World Cup was the only thing that was missing from him. If it was him who carried the hopes of the cricket fans in India, then today it was payback time for him. The generation of players that were inspired by him bought home the cup. Nothing encapsulated this better than what Kohli said. He said “ He carried the burden for 21 years, now is our time to carry him” The match itself started off in a misleading manner as the captains were not sure of what the other meant to do and were steadfast in the belief that they won the toss. In the end, the referee wanted the toss to be conducted. In what has been a superb turnaround from 2003 final, Zaheer started this final in a superb manner- he bowled three maidens on the trot. On the other hand, the surprise selection for final, Sreesanth endured a tough time- exactly the way he started off t...

Enthiran

There was a time , when I was a Chiranjeevi fan, to an extent that I even defended his flop movies such as Rickshavodu, Big Boss and others of the same ilk. For me he was was the ultimate star- the superstar. And hearing tales of Amitabh Bachchan from my father did nothing to alter my views on Chiranjeevi's superstardom Towards the end of my graduation, that is circa 2005 in April, two movies released- Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi. I went to Mumbai Express for the first day first show and was not impressed. Rajnikanth, coming off a colossal flop called  Baba  and Chandramukhi was touted to be his comeback vehicle. Since we had nothing to do, we dragged ourselves to Chandramukhi and I was impressed with the fact that as a superstar, he allowed the female protagonist to run away with the credit Well when Sivaji released, I got to see Rajni mania first hand and what a sight it was! I was in Bangalore and there was a serpentine queue to procure the tickets. The sheer ...
