Dum Maro Dum - You do need some Dum

In 2005 released a movie that had based its promotions on the lead actor singing rap. What added to the movie were the superb performances by the ensemble cast. The biggest advantage to the movie was the fact that the twists were not forced upon the viewer but was a part of the movie. The movie went by the name ‘Bluffmaster’

Now in 2011, the director and actor collaborated to make another thriller that was shouting from the roof tops that it was a thriller. The promotions were based on a song performed by Deepika Padukone which consisted of filthy lyrics. How you wish they had based it on the rap song by Abhishek Bachchan

While Bluffmaster had Nana Patekar and Riteish Deshmukh delivering superlative performances, Dum Maaro Dum has to entirely rely on the script considering none of the actors have a meaty part

Its the script that lets the actors down rather than the actors letting the movie down. When the character of Michael Barbosa is so built up, the unravelling of who it is does let the movie down a few notches. The movie is built up rapidly till the interval and it falls at the same pace after the interval

Abhishek needs to be lauded in accepting a script that has him doing nothing in the climax. Bipasha’s role was pretty similar too

Rana Dagubatti it is then who walks away with the honours in the movie as he delivers in the role of a lovelorn man. He tweeted a few months ago that a woman cries for many reasons but the only reason why a man cries is because of a woman. He plays the part in the movie. It is he who has got the major role in the movie

Prateik Babbar seems to have inherited the gutso of his  mother and makes his role look believable as he plays a 17 year old man. Why it was named as a special appearance is known only to the actor and the director

Aditya Panscholi and Govind Namdeo act their parts well

A word of caution to people heading to the theatre for Deepika Padukone. She looks far worse than a south Indian dancing extra gyrating her hips. It seems more like being gripped by a bout of convulsions

Final : India V Sri Lanka

Tendulkar has finally become the most decorated player in World Cricket. After having the hefty tag of ‘God’ attached to him for close to a decade now, World Cup was the only thing that was missing from him. If it was him who carried the hopes of the cricket fans in India, then today it was payback time for him. The generation of players that were inspired by him bought home the cup. Nothing encapsulated this better than what Kohli said. He said “ He carried the burden for 21 years, now is our time to carry him” The match itself started off in a misleading manner as the captains were not sure of what the other meant to do and were steadfast in the belief that they won the toss. In the end, the referee wanted the toss to be conducted. In what has been a superb turnaround from 2003 final, Zaheer started this final in a superb manner- he bowled three maidens on the trot. On the other hand, the surprise selection for final, Sreesanth endured a tough time- exactly the way he started off t...

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa...

Cameraman Ganga tho Rambabu review

When asked his opinion on Monty Panesar, the legendary leg spinner, Shane Warne said “Monty hasn’t played 33 Tests, he has played the same Test 33 times.” Hilarious, it surely was, but it also tells us that the lack of variety can never go unnoticed. Puri Jagannadh is also treading the same path as Monty Panesar now. His movies have become monotonous. No two ways about it. Protagonist leading a normal life, rises in staure, opposes authority and finally, gets his way. This has been the standard flow in the majority of his movies. A more recent addition is the way they talk to/about women. In spite of all these blemishes, there are moments of brilliance in the movie, depending on your perspective that is. The scene where Pawan Kalyan confronts Prakash Raj on his knowledge about Telugu Thalli and the scene where he explains to Tamannah that every man is a poet in his own right are pointers to a brilliant dialogue writer hidden in the reckless director that we have come to k...
