Tees Maar Khan - Khano mein Khan tha wo con-man

After the intermission of the movie, there is a scene where 'actor' Akshaye asks 'director' Akshay- mujhe karna kya hai? After having watched the first half breeze through, the scene kind of sets the motion for what is to follow  in the movie

The first half begins in a superb manner, the chutzpah that we normally associate with Farah Khan. It shows a still unborn Tees Maar Khan urf Tabrez Mirza Khan learning the tricks of the trade in his mother's womb ala Abhimanyu. Entry of Akshay Kumar is pretty forced and built-up. The one thing that half the nation (depends on the sex ratio in India now) was waiting for, comes very early in the movie as it's the introduction for Katrina Kaif. Yes, you guessed it right! It's SHEELA KI JAWANI

It is to the actor's credit that he actually pulls off a few scenes in the first half, even eliciting laughs for the same. It's actually the entry of Akshaye Khanna that slows the movie down and it has nothing to do with him as he delivers a stand-out performance in the movie. The theme of the movie is such that it is pretty one-dimensional and Farah chose comedy as the way forward

Like they say, too many cooks spoil the broth. A truck load of actors in a movie are also capable of spoiling an entire movie. The same happens in the second half as there are a host of characters and the chaos that we come to identify in the 'movie within the movie' is what we identify with the movie too

Akshay Kumar, who normally pulls off these 'mindless' comedy acts is not in form as he has been far removed  from the identity the common man identifies with- being the common man. He is a con-man in this movie whose catch phrases are all shown in the TV already

Akshaye Khanna has the most meaty part after Akshay Kumar and comes away unscathed from the mess because of his timing. The closed eyes emoting in a few scenes, the back problem, and the 'Oscar' fetish are a pointer towards a certain actor- don't you know it already?!! He carries it off well

Katrina Kaif has nothing to do in the movie except sway/gyrate her hips for the songs in the movie and if we were to describe the other cast, we would be writing a coffee table book on the movie instead

Finally,SRK fans can be happy that he needs to be around for Farah and collections wise too the movie won't suffer as there were many SRK fans thronging the counters as there were Akshay fans. SRK actually took a wise decision of not acting in this movie and I see no reason in him fighting with Farah. He should instead be happy that he did not act

Finally Farah needs to rethink all Bollywood tributes and odes to a bygone era as it is getting repetitive for the audience. It's Akshay's bad luck that he got stuck with one such movie where there is no script or was there one. She could have made a proper movie with the star cast she had at hand. Alas

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

BREAKING NEWS: Allu Arjun and Ravi Teja from Telugu movies make a fleeting appearance in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Doesn't matter that they appear in a TV footage in the movie From the time it was announced that Anil Kapoor would be a part of the Mission Impossible franchise, it was marked as an awaited movie in India. It was widely anticipated that he would play a major role in the movie. Though he serves as a major connecting link in the movie or rather the main reason, why the movie moves to India, he is projected as a lusting billionaire One of the very good things about the movie is its humour content. There are a lot of subtle one-liners by the guy who operates the computer and is the technical guru in the movie. The movie is about an evil mind getting his hand on nuclear warhead and the mission is to stop a full blown war between USA and Russia There are a lot of things that are interlinked in the movie. For example, at the beginning of the mission when it’s sa...

Enthiran

There was a time , when I was a Chiranjeevi fan, to an extent that I even defended his flop movies such as Rickshavodu, Big Boss and others of the same ilk. For me he was was the ultimate star- the superstar. And hearing tales of Amitabh Bachchan from my father did nothing to alter my views on Chiranjeevi's superstardom Towards the end of my graduation, that is circa 2005 in April, two movies released- Mumbai Express and Chandramukhi. I went to Mumbai Express for the first day first show and was not impressed. Rajnikanth, coming off a colossal flop called  Baba  and Chandramukhi was touted to be his comeback vehicle. Since we had nothing to do, we dragged ourselves to Chandramukhi and I was impressed with the fact that as a superstar, he allowed the female protagonist to run away with the credit Well when Sivaji released, I got to see Rajni mania first hand and what a sight it was! I was in Bangalore and there was a serpentine queue to procure the tickets. The sheer ...

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Ten years ago a young man gave the Hindi film industry a breath of fresh air with his ‘cult’ film Dil Chahta Hai . It was, in all senses a coming of the age movie. That young man now acts in a movie directed by his sister. The movie bears uncanny resemblance to the movie made by the man himself Starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar (in the same order as they appear in screen credits), the movie has a lot going for it. The star cast is a major plus and the biggest positive for the movie is the location that it has been shot in- Spain What starts off as a fun trip changes into one where the protagonists confront their fears and in the process we peel the layers of their personalities. Though at some places the movie seems dragged, it does the job of taking you along with the proceedings. The only complaint, if there has to be one, is the fact that the comic track that involves the boys scaring others seems a little forced. All the three actors appear in most of the scen...
